Summary

As the houses of Gondolin gather for the city’s defense, Idril finds Eärendel crying at the loud noises and fire. Idril weeps as she believes Gondolin and her family are going to be destroyed. Meanwhile, Turgon calls a council of nobles as nobody knows if they should fight for Gondolin or evacuate. Moglin and his companion, Salgant, convince Turgon to stay and fight for their wealth and weapons, or they will end up in Melko’s hand. Turgon agrees, not realizing that Meglin is manipulating him to ensure the Noldoli’s destruction. Monsters charge across the valley, and the heat causes many to faint as all water in the city dries up. Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs, tells his army to attack the Northern Gate.
