Summary

Part IV, titled “journey to the end of the day” (177) begins in 1994, Lucy is at an art gallery helping Violet and Max set up for Max's exhibit. Violet and Lucy discuss Lucy's concerns about her future, as they leave the gallery and walk to a bookstore. Inside, Violet sets off to look for a book, while Lucy spots Percy with Lauren Moon. He has his arm around her and they kiss. Lucy runs out of the store. Violet follows and takes Lucy to another art exhibit called “The Earth Room” (186). Aptly named, it is simply a room filled with dirt. Violet leaves Lucy alone for a moment, and Lucy observes as a man enters the room and begins raking the dirt.
