Summary

In the prologue, Vivienne “Vivi” Jones takes a bath to comfort herself after breaking up with her boyfriend Rhys Penhallow, who is engaged to be married to someone else. He has returned to Wales. Vivi drinks vodka and chats with her cousin Gwyn. Vivi moved to Graves Glen, Georgia to live with Gwyn and Aunt Elaine after her mother died. Gwyn suggests they hex Rhys. They do so, but only in jest. Neither realizes that their curse was successful.

Chapter 1 resumes nine years later. Rhys is driving around Dweniniaid, Wales: his family’s hometown. He exits the car and walks around. He notices people avoiding him. He enters his family’s bar, The Raven and Crown. Rhy’s eldest brother Llewellyn—also known as Wells—runs the pub. His other brother Bowen moved away to Snowdonia. Wells and Rhys chat about Rhys...
