Summary

In Chapter 16, Roza finally returns to Razan and waits for Hushang to come home. While she waits, strangers from the city chop down Razan’s forest. Ancestral graves are dug up and looted, and the wildlife is destroyed. The strangers also give the townspeople the right to encroach on outsider property, and since Roza is from Tehran, this applies to her property.

As Roza is harassed, she calls on the ghosts of her family for help. When her attackers see the ghosts, they flee. Issa then comes looking for Beeta, and ends up staying to help Roza care for the house.

In Chapter 17, a group of men find Beeta at the beach. Because she dreamt about her family the previous night, she only came to the shore to look for them. Instead of finding her family, she finds a group of violent men...
