Summary

In Chapter Three, R becomes depressed and stops building the cabin in the garden. The narrator tries to continue building the cabin herself but gives up because the noise upsets the baby. N also becomes depressed and spends most of his time in bed. The narrator recalled being pushed over on a train platform. The narrator takes over the household duties that G used to perform. R begins planting vegetables in the garden. They run out of food and R and N go on another supply run. They do not return that day and the narrator waits for them alone in the house with baby Z. Together, they watch television talent shows and the narrator tries to avoid watching the news.
