The Ellcrys

The Ellcrys is an enchanted tree; it maintains a barrier called the Forbidding, which keeps the Demons banished from the world. The Ellcrys is a sentient being but only communicates with a few that serve her. The Ellcrys begins to die; this weakens the Forbidding and allows Demons to escape through.

Manx

Manx is the wolfhound that belongs to King Eventine of the Elves. Manx is constantly at the King's side but it is not until the end of the story that it is discovered that Manx was killed and replaced by a shape-shifting Demon earlier in the story.
