Summary

Karin goes to Mark's hospital room and he recognizes her as his sister. They embrace and he holds her face in his hands to study her. Mark has been reading a book called Sand County Almanac which Daniel has given to him. Mark tells Karin that Daniel is moving to Alaska to be with the cranes all summer long. Karin tells Mark that she is not going with Daniel, that she is staying to work at the Refuge. Mark breaks down in tears when he tells Karin that it had been Barbara out on the highway and she was the cause of his accident but never told him until the other day. Barbara had also told Mark that she is washed up, finished, and he asks Karin to hire her at the Refuge but that makes Karin angry...
