The new band shows baffling anomalies and an inability to break through to the left side. Silvio "sees" that the three little sisters and the Genaros are not inept, but that Carlos is not the right Nagual for them. Carlos' luminous body has three compartments, requiring a different rule. Furthermore, when la Gorda slims down it is seen that she is not a southerly woman but a northerly dreamer, throwing off the balance. When Doña Soledad appears as a southern stalker, things grow worse. While dreaming, Silvio receives a "master plan" and excludes Carlos from discussing its details. Silvio takes over Carlos' guidance ordering him and la Gorda to perform a series of not-doings involving sitting in darkness in a crate, lying in the fetal position with eyes closed, and being suspended in harnesses in the tree tops.
