Transformation

The theme of transformation is found through out the entire book. Many of the main characters go through some form of it. Bianca transforms from cynical wall flower into a girl who is all her own. At first, she is snarky and sarcastic, but she is loyal and caring to her friends. She is shown to be highly intelligent but very self conscious. This is due to her earlier missteps with a boy four years older than her. This early hurt has clearly wounded her and turned her away from ever pursuing any romantic relationship with anyone. And, when her parents announce their divorce she is doubly sure she wants nothing to do with love. It all ends the same way, she thinks.
