Kiewarra

Kiewarra is a semi-rural farming community in the Australian state of Victoria. Kiewarra is a fictional town, but it is based on similar towns in rural Australia. Kiewarra is portrayed as a generally undereducated and close-minded community. Most of the citizens of Kiewarra work as farmers, and they spend much of their leisure time engaged in gossip or fights. At the time of the narrative, tensions in Kiewarra have grown highly strained due to a two-year drought that has plagued the town. The weather is very hot, and the community has been further impoverished by their inability to produce crops in the drought. Kiewarra is the hometown of all of the novel’s characters, the only exception being Scott Whitlam. The protagonist, Aaron Falk, is from Kiewarra, but he and his father left due to rampant local rumors that Aaron was somehow responsible for the death of Ellie...
