Summary

Chapter 1

Paul and his wife are to have dinner with Serge Lohmann at a local restaurant where the reservation list is months long. Serge brags to Paul that he can get a reservation there at a moment’s notice. Paul does not want to be there when Serge arrives, so he and his wife have drinks at a café across the street.

Chapter 2

Paul and Claire walk to the café since it is close to their home. They have beers, and Paul reflects on his twenty year relationship with Claire. Claire asks Paul if he thinks there is something on their son Michel’s mind recently.
