Summary

Chapter 1

Paul and his wife are to have dinner with Serge Lohmann at a local restaurant where the reservation list is months long. Serge brags to Paul that he can get a reservation there at a moment’s notice. Paul does not want to be there when Serge arrives, so he and his wife have drinks at a café across the street.

Chapter 2

Paul and Claire walk to the café since it is close to their home. They have beers, and Paul reflects on his twenty year relationship with Claire.
