Summary

The Destroyers’ prologue is told from the viewpoint of Patmos tourist Elise, a young American woman newly divorced and fleeing the Big Apple for a of couple weeks. She is vacationing with her friend, Raina, but their trip has been contaminated by Raina’s obsession with a local yacht owner, Charlie. Elise sends a postcard that she wrote days ago to her sister, sending it off even though after rereading it she realizes that her expectations for her trip were too optimistic. The two women need to board their ferry soon in order to catch their flight back to the States, but Raina refuses to leave a local cafe until she sees Charlie, who has been ignoring her texts, one last time.
