Summary

Chapter 9 is narrated in the first person from Osita’s point of view. He says that he knows “what Aunty Kavita wants to know” (88), but that she is not prepared to know it, and that he is afraid of “what she will find out” (88). He says that he is afraid that someone saw him “that day” (88) and will tell her something.

Chapter 10 is narrated in the first person from Vivek’s perspective. Vivek remarks that he felt heavy in life. He says that he felt light as a child, but that it was as if he was being “dragged through concrete” (89) that later dried on him and weighed him down. He mentions his “fugues” (90), which he describes as short periods of rest for which he was grateful. When he stopped cutting his hair, he felt that the extra weight on his head helped...
