Chapter 20

In Chapter 20, Ruby and Lee spend some time talking while Chubs and Suzume sleep. Ruby explains to Lee about her power and the fact that she’s easier drawn into another person’s mind if she’s tired or inattentive. They nap as well and wake well after daylight. They wake the others and leave Black Betty behind, knowing the trackers are probably on the lookout for the van. They set out on foot, walking near a highway but just out of sight of the vehicles traveling along it. They hear a loud crash. Lee and Ruby go to investigate and see people dressed all in black rush to an overturned truck. One of them has a knife and the driver is on the ground. Ruby screams without realizing it and the people turn their guns on Lee and Ruby. They discover...
