Chapter 16

In Chapter 16, Ruby listens as Lee finally goes to sleep. Ruby wants to move closer but, as always, fears accidentally erasing herself from his memory. She hears the boys who attacked them talking and moves closer to hear better but finds Chubs already there. Chubs says that he believes the boys are going to try to steal Black Betty. Chubs and Ruby spend some time talking together after that and Chubs explains that he was hiding at a family-owned cabin when the Psi soldiers picked him up. Ruby later realizes that the EDO is a code for 540, an AM radio station. Ruby and Chubs realize the Psi children can hear certain frequencies that adults cannot hear, which makes the White Noise effective, and that the Slip Kid must be using that frequency on the radio. They tune in and hear a voice...
