Summary

Chapter 13 is written from Vera’s third-person perspective. On Sunday, she goes to talk to Ernie Moorland, a former colleague who knows her family’s history. He tells her that Crispin had sexual relationships with his workers and that there are rumors that Mark also has affairs.

At the police station, Vera wonders how to present the case to her team because many of them are not from the area and even the ones who are do not know how things work there and how hard it is for farmers.
