Roland Deschain, Susannah Dean and Oy make their way through Fedic. They find a portrait of Mordred standing over Arthur of Eld's white horse, and Roland tries to destroy it. However, they realize that painting and another of the Dark Tower, which have been done by Patrick Danville. Susannah asks if she will have to die for Roland to reach the tower. He says Oy and she will be there when he climbs to the top, but she believes this is a lie. Susannah dreams of Eddie and Jake, who again warn her of Dandelo. They continue on their journey, Roland carrying Susannah in a harness. They go through the maze of tunnels under Fedic, having trouble finding the door that will lead them to Discordia. They finally find the correct way, but realize something is following them.

The monster chases them, but Susannah uses fire to drive the beast...
