Einar/Lili

Einar begins the novel as Greta's art professor in Copenhagen, Germany. They marry and while Einar's landscape art is doing well, Greta's art career is stalled. It is only after she receives a lucrative commission for an opera diva, Anna, that she feels that she may have found her niche. When Anna cancels the appointment, which would put Greta behind on the work, Greta asks Einar to put on Anna's costume dress and pose for her, so she can continue. Einar is hesitant to do this, but seeing how desperate she is, he agrees. Once he has the dress on, secretly, he finds that he likes how he feels in the dress. When Greta jokingly calls him 'Lili' he finds that he loves being called by that name.

As the novel progresses, it becomes apparent to both Einar and Greta that Einar enjoys wearing women's clothing. Einar...
