Summary

Chapter 23

Lili spends another several weeks recovering from her next surgery. She’s gotten so sickly and weak that she’s barely able to move, and requires constant pain medication. She and Greta have plans to move back to Copenhagen once the final operation is done. Lili insists that she’s getting stronger, and convinces Greta that she’s ready for the final surgery. They talk to Bolk, who tries to insist that they wait at least another week for Lili to recover more, but Lili just wants to get the surgery over with. The chapter ends with Hans showing up to visit.

Chapter 24

This chapter jumps ahead to 1931, with Lili and Greta living together in Copenhagen once again. The surgery has been a success, although Lili is still very weak and sickly. Greta has had a hard time painting. She feels alone...
