Summary

Chapter 5

Back in the present, it is the evening of the party. Greta and Lili attend the party at the art gallery. Lili doesn't want to be separated from Greta, who promises to watch over her. Greta is pulled away by a friend, leaving Lili alone. Lili meets a fellow painter, Henrik, who has no idea who she really is. The two start talking and Henrik offers to walk her home. She agrees, and soon the two of them are kissing. In his mind, Einar feels like he’s still playing a game, still separating himself from Lili. He’s reminded of the fact that he and Greta are unable to have children, and how his doctor had asked him if he was a homosexual. Lili gets a nosebleed during the kiss, which panics Henrik.
