Summary

Jude returns to her room at dawn contemplating how certain faeries rely on twisted words and cruelty to get around their inability to lie. Madoc, in particular, is a redcap who relies on bloodshed. Jude says she cannot see him or the other faeries as evil. Yet, she feels powerless. She sleeps the rest of the day and prepares for a lecture. Madoc insists that they learn everything regular faeries do, yet this causes other faeries to dislike them. Jude enjoys the lessons, while Vivi refuses to attend. Taryn and Jude head to the High King’s Palace where all children are taught a variety of subjects. Jude has become proficient with a sword thanks to Madoc, and hopes to become a knight of the king.
