Summary

A man in a dark coat knocks on the door of a home. Inside, ten-year-old Jude and her sisters, Taryn and Vivienne (Vivi) wait inside. Vivi is older than the twins, and looks very different. Jude answers the door and calls for her mother. Her mother tells her to go to her room and tells the man that Jude is no one's child. The man reveals that Jude’s mother is his wife, and that she faked her and Vivi’s death to escape him. The man calls her mortal (implying that he is not) and Jude runs to grab her sisters.
