Alfred and Enid are aboard the Gunnar Myrdal in a cabin without a porthole. Enid did not want to spend the extra money for a porthole.

When Enid is pregnant with Denise, she asks Alfred to buy a certain stock. He feels that finance is none of her business and leaves for an eleven day business trip without even saying goodbye to her.
