Chapter 10 Summary

Cardinal Bem discretely contacts Father Ley and finds out that the Security Police have been looking for him and have told Father Ley that he has disappeared. The Security Police deny having him in custody. This does not seem strange to either man, as the Security Police are ordinarily secretive and deceitful. Cardinal Bem arranges to meet Father Ley the next day in the city. He nervously makes his way to the train station, but it is apparent that no one is searching for him yet.
