Summary

The opening series of scenes happen on the night of the falling of the Berlin Wall. A man laments that there will be no more secrets and that he and the person with whom he is speaking will be obsolete. The man is shot. A woman’s shoe is included in the scene where he lays dead on the ground.

In the next scenes, Agent Lorraine Broughton flies to Century House in London so her superior officers can hear the story of the death of a fellow agent, David Perceval BER-1, in person. Lorraine claims she was not there when Perceval was killed. Her superior, H/BER, Eric Waddel, begins recording her story.

The story begins on October 28, 1989 when her superiors notify Lorraine that they believe KGB officer Yuri Bakhtin killed BER-2 James Gascoine in West Berlin. Bakhtin has gone missing as well...
