Summary

In Chapter 13, Hong continues to explain the phenomena of multiple city avatars. He tells the boroughs that the same thing happened in London and that is that it does not set a hopeful precedent for New York. While the avatars discuss their next step, they feel a rumbling. The Center is overtaken by white tendrils. They grow and sprout until the entire Bronx Art Center is consumed and replaced by a new amoebic white tower. The avatars escape but are in disarray. Manny and Sao Paulo head to City Hall Station in the checkered cab. Branca, Brooklyn, Padmini, and Hong make their way to Staten Island to find Aislyn. Bronca insists that Veneza goes home, she is afraid that Veneza will not be safe if she accompanies them.
