Lina and Doon are caught up in the mystery of the instructions and both are excited about the possibility they might solve the mystery. However, they are more concerned with the need to make their world better so they and their families can survive. Lina, along with every other citizen in Ember, has considered the possibility that the generator will go off permanently, leaving the entire city in darkness.
