Lina Mayfleet

Lina is a twelve-year-old orphan who is living with her grandmother and younger sister as the story opens. She knows nothing about life apart from Ember but has come to believe there might be some other place outside of it. Lina is willing to place faith in her dreams although she has no basis for them. Lina also loves color and spends a great deal of money for a couple of colored pencils when it's believed there are none remaining in the city. Lina is driven by her sense of justice and what's right. When she's faced with the knowledge that Mayor Cole is stealing from the residents, she is furious.
