Summary

Chapter 22

Nahri travels by palanquin to the Grand Temple in the daeva quarter. When she arrives she sees a crowd awaiting her arrival with Dara entertaining them. She is greeted by Dara when her palanquin stops, and then they are joined by Kaveh and Jamshid. Dara suggests that Jamshid give Nahri a tour of the temple, and Jamshid complies. Jamshid takes Nahri inside, explaining to her that only Daevas are allowed in the temple and that, because she is a Nahid, she is exempt from the purifying rituals that other visitors need to perform. They view alcoves where statues to Nahri’s ancestors stand, and Nahri sees one in Dara’s image on horseback where his body is turned around shooting an arrow at an imaginary pursuer. Jamshid expresses a desire to learn to fight like that, and Dara approaches and tells him...
