Chapter 19

Ali is teaching Jamshid to spar when Kaveh and Dara enter. Ali asks why Dara left, and Dara responds that he was eager to return to Nahri’s service. Dara challenges Ali to spar, and Jamshid and Kaveh leave. The two begin fighting, and they trade hostile words. Dara tells Ali he knows that he is being blocked from seeing Nahri, and he knows the order to do so is not coming from her. Then Dara extracts information from Ali about the arrangement for Muntadhir to marry Nahri. They also discuss Dara’s uprising, with Dara justifying his decision to lead the rebellion against the Geziri by saying he was trying to save his race from extermination. Ali finds an opportunity to tackle Dara and hold a dagger to his throat when Dara summons the weapons of the room to come alive...
