Chapter 6 Summary

Borlu stands before the Oversight Committee, which are twenty-one representatives from Ul Qoma and twenty-one representatives from Besz. He hands out the file on the Fulana, who is Mahalia Geary. Geary is an American and PhD student who was assigned to an archeological dig in Ul Qoma. Her educational status is what allowed her to cross the borders between Ul Qoma and Besz so easily.

After Borlu goes over the comings and goings of Geary, including a speech she gave about Orciny at a conference in Beszel, one of the Congressman says that Borlu has not proved breach. Borlu thinks about an accident he witnessed as a child, when a van from Ul Qoma crashes into a Besz store and pedestrian. Breach arrives on the scene to deal with the border perforation.
