Boston is the capital and most populous city of the state of Massachusetts. Most of the story takes place in Boston. Yunior moves there after his fiancée breaks up with him. There, he teaches creative writing at Harvard University. Yunior’s friends in Boston include Elvis and Arlenny. The story implies that Yunior has lived in Boston before, although it does not state when or why. Yunior looks for romantic relationships in Boston as well, but these relationships do not lead to anything long-term or substantial. Yunior faces substantial racial discrimination in Boston at the hands of police and bystanders and he often struggles with his teaching position and his own writing projects.
