Cora Carlisle

Cora is a 36-year-old woman living in Wichita, Kansas. She has two sons and is married to Alan. Cora was raised in an orphanage in New York City before being adopted by a family in McPherson, Kansas. As Cora is a polite and proper woman who prefers to obey the rules of society, she keeps the story of her past a secret. Still, Cora is considered progressive by some measures as she drives a car and participates in the suffrage movement.

Louise Brooks

Louis is the 15-year-old daughter of Myra and Leonard. She is a willful, intelligent, and beautiful young woman. She frequently takes risks and shirks authority. After becoming the best dancer in all of Wichita, she is selected to train with the avant-garde Denishawn dance company in New York City.
