Good versus Evil

In the real world, good is always battling against evil. Actions usually make it relatively easy to discern the truly evil individuals from those who are good guys. In The Chain, there are some characters who are clearly the bad guys, but the good guys also take actions that are not in keeping with their role, including kidnapping and even murder. The reader is left to evaluate the true meaning of good and evil and to decide if a good character can sometimes do horribly evil things if their motives are good.

Ginger and Olly are twins who had a brutal upbringing. Their father murdered their mother when they were toddlers, and the twins were brutalized – physically and emotionally – as youngsters. As youngsters, they murdered their younger brother and their father, and they drove their stepmother to suicide then did not call for help...
