Summary

Part II: The Monster in the Labyrinth.

Chapter 43 opens with a man named Tom and his father entering a commune in search of a pair of young twins. (The father is much later identified as Red and the children are later identified as Ginger and Olly, founders of The Chain.) Tom and Red found the twins' mother and murdered her and her lover. Red drove when they left, and Tom rode in the back with the children, who were named Moonbeam and Mushroom.

In Chapter 44, Rachel has nightmares, all with the same basic message – she is in debt to The Chain and always will be. She had gone to the oncologist immediately after releasing Amelia, and underwent surgery for breast cancer. She is now undergoing chemotherapy. She can tell that Kylie is also struggling and she knows that Kylie's knowledge that they kidnapped...
