Chapter 9-12 Summary

Chapter nine begins with Jim calling an old acquaintance that works for the police and asking if any bodies have recently been drudged from the muddy river behind Maus Haus. The only ones that have come in do not match Joy's description at all. Soon Robert Maus comes to Jim's room and informs Jim that he knows that Jim gave Joy a large sum of money with which to leave Dan. Robert explains that Dan was afraid to come and see Jim himself because Dan is hoping that Jim will be able to get him a large amount of free press about his pottery and the show that will take place. Robert explains that he simply wants to avoid a scandal at the Maus Haus but Jim is angry and storms out. That night Jim goes out to eat a dive...
