Chapter 10 Summary

Carrie thinks about how her parents met. Her mom was a librarian and her dad went in to check out books one day. They married six months later. Carrie's mom was the perfect housewife and mother. She read a book by Mary Gordon Howard, The Consensus, one summer, with the other ladies from the club. It's a feminist book that seems to transform their lives. After this, her mother went back to school and became an architect. When Carrie's mother gets sick, Carrie goes to the library, where Mary Gordon Howard is signing books. When she asks Carrie why she's going to be a writer, at thirteen, all Carrie can manage is she doesn't know. Carrie realizes that Mary Gordon Howard is mean and is not going to rescue her from her life. Now, Carrie thinks about being with Sebastian and realizes that...
