Chapter 3 Summary

Carrie and Maggie are sitting at a picnic table right outside of the school grounds when they realize someone is standing in the barn, smoking a cigarette. It's one of The Mouse's friends, Peter Arnold. He's the second smartest boy in school, but he's grown over the summer and apparently has started smoking. When Carrie picks up the school paper, The Nutmeg, Peter asks her what she thinks of it. She says it's drivel. Peter says he's the editor and invites Carrie to join it as a writer. Carrie gets mad at Peter and stomps off to swim practice. Maggie chase after Carrie to try to get her to go to the mall after swim practice.
