Summary

Chapter 1 – Philip’s entry into the candy contest has been all about revenge and to put a humiliating day at the factory behind him. Philip has learned to cheat, lie, and steal his way through contests from his older brother, Andrew. Philip puts these skills to use in everyday life as well. Philip has also learned from Andrew that the ends justify the means. Philip is always escorted by his father’s bodyguard, Reggie. Reggie knows Philip’s deepest secret: that Philip dearly misses his dead mother, and has taught himself to play stringed instruments like his mother.
