Summary

Part II is titled Chrysalis. In Chapter 24, Naomi goes to the gym but discovers that the man who works there is not the man she has seen around the homeless kids. Mike Morton, the medical examiner, calls her to the morgue. Mike says he has been following up on the possibility that the dead girls were foster children, and has found that some were. While he was looking for information about that, he found a photo of a group of orphans. One little girl looked like Naomi, and she was holding her sister's hand. An official told Mike the girls had gone missing more than 20 years earlier.

Naomi drives to the state girls' home, now closed, and begins to feel some recognition. The retired director (whose name is never revealed), immediately identifies Naomi as Naomi Bolen, and says her sister's name...
