Summary

In Chapter 13, Celia goes home to visit her mother, first checking to be sure Teddy is not there. She cleans the house while her mother lies on the couch. She seems surprised later to discover that Celia is there and asks her to come home. Celia insists that she did not lie, but her mother cites the fact that the jury found him not guilty. Celia goes to the school to meet Alyssa. She remembers the boys tormenting her after she made the claim that Teddy had raped her. They said she had already had sex and it would be no big deal for them to touch her now. Celia recalls that Teddy beat her brutally the day after he returned from jail. Celia now realizes that Teddy had never touched Alyssa and all her pain had apparently been for nothing...
