Summary

Pages 81 to 107 -- Section 2 begins in the present, with Julia wondering how she lost Cassie. She then shifts back into the past tense to continue the main narrative of the story. Julia and Cassie had just started the 7th grade, and Julia was having a particularly hard time. This was there first year at the middle school, and Julia felt lost in a group of new students and responsibilities. Cassie and Julia no longer had classes together, and rarely saw each other in school.

Julia's biggest struggle, however, was that Cassie began hanging out with "the troublemakers," including her new close friend Delia Vosul (84). Julia was essentially replaced by Delia as Cassie's best friend, while Cassie and Julia maintained a "sham" of a friendship (87). Cassie also began dating Peter Oundle, which Julia believed she did just to hurt her.
