Summary

In Chapter 13, “516,” Matt wakes later than usual the following morning. Mr. Ray says there are no funerals that day. They talk about Candy Man and Mr. Ray says he was “sad to see him” homeless (209). Love texts Matt as if nothing had happened between them the previous day. Mr. Ray again says he cannot tell Matt why Love was upset at the mention of Valentine's Day. Matt agrees to meet Love. Chris walks with him and is surprised to learn that Matt and Love had spent Thanksgiving at the shelter. Matt introduces Love to Chris, and Chris leaves immediately after the introduction. Love invites Matt inside. They talk briefly about work. Matt tries to explain why he likes to be at funerals. He says he looks for the person who breaks down at each funeral.
