Summary

In Chapter 9, “In Loving Memory,” Matt “pretty much pushed Chris out the door” so that he could text Lovey in private (147). Love asks why Matt lives alone and he texts that his mother is dead and his father is in the hospital. Matt realizes that texting those words are not as painful as when he says it aloud. Love, who also lives alone, asks Matt about his plans for Thanksgiving. Love had given him some of the chicken leftover from her grandmother's repast and Matt says he will likely eat that. Love invites him to spend the holiday with her.

At school the next day, Chris presses Matt for information about his conversation with Love. Matt pretends to hold out, but then relates his plan. He also plans to tell Mr. Ray, but he arrives at the funeral home to discover Mr. Ray...
