Chapter 3 Summary

Since everybody at the factory thinks Freda is in mourning, she has decided to stay home for a few days in order to appear proper. She has asked Brenda to steal some brandy from the factory that they can enjoy at home. Brenda was reluctant to do this, but we see her sneaking a bottle into the bathroom at work when no one is looking. As she walks out of the bathroom, she sees Maria approaching a box of old clothes. Mr. Paganotti regularly sets out boxes of old clothes and other miscellaneous items for his employees to take; things he inherits from his many friends and relatives.
