Summary

Chapter 20 begins as Cussy enters Jackson’s yard. Cussy is excited to give Jackson a copy of her mother’s book - Brave New World. Cussy knows it is a banned book and worries that Jackson will judge her. But Jackson says her mother had good taste. Jackson gives her back her library loan and gives her the book Sons by Buck, asking Cussy to read it. They talk about books and the Company until Cussy has to go. Jackson offers Junia a slice of apple which she eats greedily. He then offers a slice to Cussy and their hands touch but this upsets Junia and she startles Jackson and stomps on the fruit they drop. The chapter ends as she runs off with Jackson laughing behind them.
