Summary

In Chapter 6: "Glazing Springs," Malcolm tells his parents about loaning books from Hannah but refrains from telling them about spying for her. At school, Malcolm learns from his friend Eric (whose father is a judge) that the inquest into Robert Luckhurst's death proved that he was strangled to death and dropped into the canal afterwards. He goes to see baby Lyra but is told he cannot see her right now - while there he sees the carpenter Mr. Taphouse making new reinforced shutters for the windows of the priory. Malcolm reports what he saw at the priory and the news from Eric to Hannah and chats with her about the books he borrowed from her. Hannah meets with George Papadimitriou, one of the men who accompanied Lord Nungent at the inn and tells him what happened. He approves of her recruitment of Malcolm...
