Summary

In Chapter 1, Berg breaks into a farmhouse and steals a bottle of Lortab 7.5s. He wanders around the house for a while, and goes to the bathroom, remembering to flush so as not to give himself away. Outside, Berg takes note of his surroundings, and feels the Lortabs warming his insides.

In Chapter 2, the narrator reveals that Berg is in Talinas to housesit his girlfriend Nell's friend’s mom. He has spent most of his time thus far caring for Mimi's chickens and dog, and drinking at the Tavern. Berg gets to know the regulars, including another addict, Lapley. Berg does not like Lapley, because he reminds him of his own additions. Not long before moving to Talinas, Berg went to rehab.
