Chapter 22 Summary

The next time the Stirlings hear about Valancy and Barney Snaith it's because the two see a movie and eat a Chinese dinner in town. Valancy drives by with Barney in his car and Mrs. Frederick and Cousin Stickles are sitting on the front verandah. Mrs. Frederick stops attending church because she can't handle the pity and gossip. Cousin Stickles keeps attending because she says the family has been given a cross to bear.

Chapter 22 Analysis

Valancy is having so much fun living her new life that she can't believe it has been such a short time since she left home. She is no longer living a sheltered life, but instead is experiencing living for the first time. she is finding delight in small things, such as attending a movie or eating out at a restaurant.
