Chapter 18 Summary

The first time Barney Snaith visits after Valancy moves in, Valancy feels a new symptom. Barney Snaith tells Valancy that he's going to the port and asks if they need anything. She asks him to bring them codfish. After this, Barney Snaith comes around often. Valancy gets to know him better, but realizes that Cissy doesn't know Barney any better than Valanvy, and Cissy has known Barney for five years. Valance also realizes that Cissy and Barney are fond of each other but not in a romantic way.
